Pond with Rickety Wooden Bridge Watercolor Painting

This is a plein air watercolor painting of an autumn scene at Daizahoshi-ike, a pond in the Iizuna highlands of Nagano Prefecture, Japan.

The body of water was said to have been created when, once upon a time, a giant named Daidara sat on the nearby Mount Iizuna to rest. When he got up, his first step made a dent on the land, which later gathered rainwater and become the pond we know today.

飯綱高原の目印的スポット、「大座法師池」（ダイザホシイイケ）で見た秋の風景を描いてみました。

池の由来については、はるか昔、巨人のデーダラ法師（ダイダラボッチ）が飯縄山に腰を下ろし、一歩足を踏み出したときの足跡に水が溜まってできた池、と伝えられています。

This piece is painted with transparent watercolor on thick, acid free, 200-lb rough watercolor paper (100% cotton). This is an original, signed work of art. It is unframed. The artwork will be packaged in a cello sleeve and shipped flat inside a sturdy cardboard mailer.
